Numbers Matching GTX 440 4 Speed Dana 60
Few cars turn your head as quickly as a 70 Plymouth B-Body. The lines are great, the presence is unmistakable, the option combinations can be nothing short of amazing and they just look damn good. GTXs are at the top of Plymouths muscle food chain, and this one is definitely an exceptional car in an exceptional car line. If you were to time-travel back to 1970 and order a 1970 Plymouth GTX brand new, there's a good chance you would have ordered this one just as it sits today: Air Grabber, 440 Super Commando (more torque than 426 HEMU), a Hurst pistol grip jamming an A833 18 spline 4 Speed and a Dana 60 baking the tiresif that isnt motoring at its finest, I dont know what is.
This is a complete numbers matching car (by numbers matching, we mean original fender tag, VIN, engine block VIN stamp and transmission VIN stamp) that has received an extensive, high quality restoration, using a smart cross-section of original, NOS and reproduction parts. Before we get started on the narrative, let's break down the original fender tag:

This car DEFINES well optioned! Its the right color. It has the right accents in the white top and stripes. Its got the right drive train with the powerful and reliable ORIGINAL 440 Super Commando, ORIGINAL 18-spline four speed transmission and bulletproof Dana 60 rear, the right interior with the center console-mounted Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, and the right view up front with the rallye gauges and Air Grabber! How could you not like this car?
Lets start outside. This car looks AWESOME. The paint is miles deep and flat as Kansas, and the stripes are under the clear coat so there isnt a ripple anywhere. Restored on a rotisserie, the body is arrow straight. The white top and side stripes so perfectly compliment the caryoud really have to see it to appreciate just how great it looks. The quarter panels are original to the car, as are the deck-lid, doors and hood. A partial trunk floor and floor pan were replaced during the restoration process. The stainless steel trim is in exceptional condition, as are the grill and tail panel. The chrome is fantasticthis car will turn heads wherever it goes. This GTX has been driven less than 200 miles since the restoration was completed ... and looks the part. Under the hood, the original assembly line installed Super Commando 440 has been rebuilt, and is highly detailed. The original Carter 4737S was restored by Dick Katter in Virginia and sits atop the original manifold. An NOS choke assembly was located and installed as well. The air cleaner was restored, with the base painted the correct semi-gloss black. A correct air cleaner element finishes off the top of the engine. Much effort was put into assuring this engine compartment will be in the running at any judged Mopar event. Note the following correct, dated coded restored or original parts: coil; coil bracket,;voltage regulator; heater hose bracket; distributor hold-down; PCV valve; throttle return cable; engine bolts ("H head"); alternator; idle solenoid; hoses & clamps; air cleaner element; NOS dipstick tube; rubber fuel lines and upper metal fuel line, and; vapor separator on fuel pump. an and a Pertronix ignition hides in the original distributor housing. Theres a new set of date coded wires and a correct reproduction Group 27 battery (Turbostart modern sealed battery). Last, but certainly not least, that's an original, functional Air Grabber, with all components present and accounted for.
Likewise, the original A833 18 spline HEMI 4 Speed has been completely rebuilt, and was installed. Along with the transmission, a new shift, shifter mechanism and boot was sourced from Brewer's Performance. A new Flywheel, pressure playe, clutch disc and throw-out bearing were installed .... all 11" (10.95) Hemi & 440 only pieces. All wear items were replaced, including a new torque shaft (Z-Bar), and clutch fork boot. This GTX shifts smoothly and is ready to rock!
Underneath, the story continues. Theres a correct reproduction H-pipe exhaust from Don's Customer Exhaust of Ohio, complete with brand new reproduction mufflers bearing the proper Pentastar logo and part number. New tail pipes and chrome tips with Q-clamps were installed, sourced from Dale's Cuda Shop. The bell-housing and lower inspection cover are properly restored in the correct shade of orange. The transmission cross-member is finished in the correct semi-gloss black. On the floors, trunk and frame rails, you'll notice the same deep B5 blue paint everywhere. The correct and original Dana 60 axle is present, fully rebuilt and detailed.. You need to see one of these on a lift to appreciate just how large one of those rears is! Everythings where it should be, and all brake, suspension, drive train and steering parts are painted, cleared or plated for the long haul. Why not protect a car this clean when you have the chance? Its common sense to do what you can. Dressing things up a bit is a handy byproduct.
The trunk is highly detailed, as well. Theres a brand new spare on a brand new rim, a restored and correct jack, new trunk mat, and the nearly always broken or missing taillight covers. And, the paint inside is as nice as the exterior!
The GTX rides on correct reproduction 15x7 Rallye Wheels from Stockton, sporting correct reproduction trim rings. Rolling stock is four brand new reproduction Goodyear Polyglas F6x15 tires.
Inside, youre sitting on freshly restored seats and foams sourced from Legendary Auto Interiors (trust meyour butt knows the difference that makes!) The door panels, dash, carpet, console, dash, headliner and everything else is new or refurbished. A brand new B E & A reproduction steering wheel looks right at home. All chrome is new or re-plated as well. The blue interior is so coolyoull sit inside for HOURS staring at the wood grain dash, sliding the shifter back and forth If I didnt have so much to do thats where Id be!
So where does that leave you? In the enviable position of owner, thats where! GTXs are few and far between these days, and finding a cool, cool color combination is like picking a winning lottery ticket off of the sidewalk. Incredible color combination, numbers matching, 440/4 Speed/DANA 60, optioned to the hilt and high quality restoration this is as blue chip as it gets in a 1970 GTX you can actually show AND drive.
