----------
It's almost a certainty that the day will come when future enthusiasts refer to the end of the 20th Century as the golden years of easy horsepower. Gas was cheap, technology made high performance offerings insanely easy to work on and about the only thing that mattered was getting to the next stoplight faster than the guy beside you. From spry Japanese sports cars to insane creations like the Plymouth Prowler and Dodge Viper, it truly was one of the best times to be an automotive enthusiast. And, fortunately, low-mileage muscle like this sweet 25th Anniversary Trans Am allows a few lucky car guys to relish those days just a little bit longer. Immaculately maintained and rarely driven, this Poncho, 1 of only 338 25th Anniversary hardtops produced, wraps GM's proven LT1/4-speed drivetrain in a super cool color combination that's a blatant nod to muscle cars of yore. And, if you're longing for a modern performer that still possesses the appeal of showroom-fresh metal, this is just the bargain you've been waiting for!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Displaying official aesthetics for the 338 Trans Am Anniversary hardtops that would end up in the hands of enthusiasts, this clean coupe is a virtually spotless garage queen that's seen very little pavement time. 100% straight, with no history of catastrophic damage, the car's fuselage is an even wedge of all-original paint. High quality 25th Anniversary-exclusive call-outs, courtesy of GM's St. Therese, Quebec assembly plant, still shine with the best cars on the road. And overall, this Pontiac conveys a premium sense of collectability that, when combined with its spectacular performance, creates a timeless modern classic.
ENGINE
If you find a ride that's branded with Screamin' Chicken badges, chances are good that something mean lives under its hood. This top-of-the-line F4 validates that chance variable with a venerable 5.7L LT1 V8. Not to be confused with the high-performance LT-1 of the '70s, this version was introduced in 1992 as primary motivation for the C4 Corvette. By 1994, the basic formula of a 2-bolt main block with aluminum heads remained, but the motor had been revised to employ a Mass Airflow Sensor and Sequential Port Fuel Injection. And power was up to 275 horses, which translated to low 14-second quarter mile passes right off the assembly line.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Peer under this coupe and you'll find a clean chassis that's been preserved via limited road use. Behind the LT1, a requisite 4L60E 4-speed twists torque through highway-friendly, 2.73 gears. Around that drivetrain, a stock suspension follows a double A-arm front half with a 3-link rear end. Power rack-and-pinion steering makes turning a breeze while power-assisted discs bring the car to a quick halt. And everything rolls on body-matched, Trans Am-branded wheels, which spin what appear to be original 245/50ZR16 Goodyear Eagle GS-Cs.
INTERIOR
Inside the car, an upscale Trans Am GT interior is built around bright bucket seats that adjust electronically for the driver and front passenger. A leather-clad steering wheel sports convenient thumb controls for a crisp Delco sound system. The instrument panel is a familiar red Pontiac layout that features a large tachometer and sweeping speedometer. At the floor, a conservative shifter rides in a straight and clean console. Naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a modern car are present and accounted for including: power windows, power door locks, power mirrors and remote keyless entry that's complete with GM's PASSkey theft deterrent system. And everything, from the car's optional cruise control all the way to its factory air conditioning, is in impeccable working order.
