----------
The vast majority of classic trucks that attend magazine shoots and national shows sport lists of modifications that are longer than the third volume of War and Peace. But, while those extensively customized rigs are always cool to look at, this 1948 Ford manages to carry the same level of appeal without any major gimmicks. That's because, as we've stated numerous times, old school pickups are timeless slices of Americana that'll likely never go out of style. The recipient of a 2-year, frame-off restoration, this F1 exhibits a level of quality that was simply unobtainable on 1940s assembly lines. Pairing a 350 cubic inch small block with a 4-speed automatic transmission and striking orange and beige aesthetics, it's sure to turn heads. And, if you're in the market for some sweet collector metal that can be driven, shown and fully enjoyed, it's exactly the ride you've been looking for!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Roughly 600 miles out of restoration, this fantastic classic has been meticulously rebuilt to meld all the innate appeal of modern street rodding into the grandfather of Ford's legendary F-Series. The truck's expressive body panels have been bathed in a rich coat of orange and beige 2-stage. Tastefully, that 2-stage has been complemented with mirrored chrome, ornate emblems and polished stainless trim. Black running boards, a wood bed and an LED Center High Mount Stop Lamp supplement excellent form with good functionality. Speaking of lamps, “Ford” branded fog lights join tri-bar headlamps and fender-mounted taillights to provide excellent illumination. And details like polished mirrors, a polished fuel filler, painted tailgate lettering and shaved tailgate chains highlight the builder's impressive attention to detail.
ENGINE
Tilt this F1's hood and you'll see where tradition ends and convenience begins. Instead of sticking with Ford's original mill, the restorers decided that a dual-quad small block would be an excellent addition to the truck's hip looks, and we can't help but agree. A perfect fit in its smooth engine bay, the spry 350 is almost as fun to look at as it is to drive! That dual-quad carburetion, which happens to be proven Edelbrock Webers, sits between a color-keyed Edelbrock intake and custom, side-saddled air cleaners. At the edges of that intake, cast, “CHEVROLET” branded valve covers ride on cast iron heads while an aftermarket HEI distributor shoots sparks through high-quality MSD Street Fire plug wires. Pliable V-belts spin a color-keyed alternator opposite a painted AC compressor. The combustion chambers breathe well thanks to stainless block hugger headers. A beefy radiator makes good use of a small TorqFlo pusher fan. A nice layer of Chevy Orange skin covers the clean block from its water pump all the way to its bellhousing. And show-worthy details, including a chrome breather, a polished overflow tank and a fabricated battery tray, are sprinkled throughout.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Crawling under this classy Ford reveals a clean chassis that's been coated in a nice combination of orange and Satin Black paint. The 350 funnels power through a tough 700R4 4-speed, which is tied to a Ford 8-inch rear end and big, 3.70 gears. That drivetrain rolls on a factory frame, which has been upgraded with a Heidts front clip. Turns come courtesy of modern power rack-and-pinion steering. Power-assisted discs and drums provide stops. A 3-inch, true-dual exhaust system, which is wired to polished stainless mufflers, runs the whole length of the truck. And everything rolls on familiar steel wheels, which twist BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls around orange paint, chrome trim and hand-painted, “Ford” branded hubcaps.
INTERIOR
When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a stylish and comfortable cockpit that takes 'retro' to a whole new level. Top dead center, a 2-tone dash hangs Omega Kustom telemetry above a Ken Harrison tape deck and controls for Vintage Air conditioning. In front of that dash, a cushy seat hangs a tight, 2-tone hide over a custom speaker box. At the sides of that seat, painted doors anchor traditional handles in front of tidy pulls. At the base of those doors, polished sills stretch clean carpet. Opposite that carpet, a 2-tone headliner flows into custom sail panels. And in front of the driver, a chrome, tilting column spins a wood-trimmed banjo-style steering wheel around a cool “V8” logo.
