In the world of motorcycles, there are sport bikes..and then there is the Suzuki Hayabusa. Released as a no compromises sport bike, the Suzuki Hayabusa was quickly acclaimed as the “fastest production sport bike” until a manufacturer's agreement in 1999, fearing import bans since the bike was just too fast, limited top speeds to 186 mph. This 2011 'Busa remains one of the top, heavy hitters of the industry and carries custom aesthetics with tasteful upgrades. If you're a thrill seeker, or just seeking the best of what the 2-wheel industry has to offer, then Suzuki's flagship motorcycle is the bike you've been looking for!
BODYWORK/FAIRINGS
In the Hayabusa's 12th year of production, there were two color options. Pearl Nebular Black with Red decals, and this particular bike's factory finish of Pearl Mirage White with Gold decals. Eventually the factory decals would be stripped in favor of a custom look from sporty, carbon vinyl looking wrap that adorns the front fairings, lower belly, and rear taillight flares. Take a closer glance and you'll see that the carbon vinyl was laid professionally with little to no evidence of wrinkles and tears that commonly plague shoddy vinyl work. The Pearl White finish reflects a pleasant, gold hue and makes an excellent contrast to the sporty look. A comfortable Corbin seat matches the carbon theme with a sporty solo cowl out back. And smoked turn signal lenses up front and out back complete the look.
ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
To be the top dog performance machine in your industry you need top dog credentials moving your hardware, and the Hayabusa does not disappoint with a powerful 1340 cc inline four mounted inside the lightweight, aluminum frame. Featuring dual overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder, the 1.3L engine turns to a redline of 11K rpm and creates over 190 horsepower. Given the bike weighs ~580 lbs without a rider, that is enough power to propel this 2-wheel beast to standing 1/4 mile times of around 10 seconds at over 140 mph! Adding to the thrill of acceleration and power is an aftermarket SBK full exhaust that makes an aggressive appearance and an even more aggressive exhaust note, but not overbearing. Making for seamless acceleration is a 6-speed transmission that is arranged in a traditional 1 down, 5 up shift pattern. Adjustable Roaring Toyz 5-hole lowering links add some flexibility with the bike's ride height, while a billet Roaring Toyz kickstand adds some peace of mind and custom looks for the lowered bike. Michelin Pilot Power 3s offer optimal performance for the highway and twisties with Tokico brakes handling stopping duties.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/COCKPIT
Throw a leg over then settle in to the plush Corbin seat and you're welcomed to a stylish gauge cluster that displays all vital information. The fuel readings, water temps, speed, and revs are all in analog telemetry, while a center digital display shows the time, gear indicator, and odometer. The tachometer and speedo feature needles that face straight down in a resting position, a feature often found in racing/sports applications. Connecting the grips to the front forks is a stylish 'Hayabusa' black anodized triple clamp. Those grips maintain all of the factory controls such as engine start/stop, headlights, turn indicators, throttle, front brake lever, and clutch lever. And carbon pattern tank pads ensure the rider's gear won't cause any harm to the Pearl White tank while in a tucked-in seating position behind the smoked windscreen.
