Award Winning Restored GTO Hardtop 400 V8 Automatic Air Conditioning PS PB
In the golden age of American muscle, the Pontiac GTO was king. And today, when you're looking to grab a piece of Detroit's finest iron without closing out your retirement, a well-restored GTO is one of the smartest purchases on the market. There's no reason a top notch classic should cost more than the mortgage on your house. And there's ABSOLUTELY no reason spending your hard earned money should result in a 'rope and red carpet' trailer queen. After all, being a part of GM's rambunctious Pontiac family was never about striking pretty parking lot poses. This national award-winning coupe is the kind of car you can enjoy WHILE it appreciates. If you're the kind of gearhead who likes to put their hardware on the field and the street, you're looking at your next classic!
LOOKS TO LAST A LIFETIME
As fast as it is beautiful, this awesome GTO is the beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that was conducted over the course of 10 years. According to previous owners, all sheetmetal is original, suggesting the car has lived an easy life in mostly warm and dry climates. And naturally, that canvas has been bathed in correct Signet Gold 2-stage that nails the sporty yet upscale image that defines Pontiac's best offerings.
At the front of the car, a flashy dual-port grille founds ornate parking lamps and a prominent “GTO” emblem between a mirrored bumper and stacked T3 headlights. At the top of the car, a broad hood floats a small scoop, a small tach and a monochromatic arrowhead in front of fresh glass that's framed in straight stainless and cleared by matte wipers. At the sides of the car, flowing pinstripes and sporty GTO emblems add a little class, while traditional door handles and a polished mirror perfectly complement requisite wheel lips and ornate rocker moldings. And out back, a stainless-trimmed valance hangs louvered taillights between and a fourth “GTO” emblem and a second bumper that's finished with clear reverse lamps.
PONTIAC POWER
Under the hood, 400 cubic inches of correct Pontiac power hides a familiar 9786133 casting number between a correct “YS” assembly stamp and a February (B) 9th (09), 1967 (7) casting date. At the top of that Turquoise mill, a reliable Rochester carburetor bridges the gap between a polished air cleaner, bright stainless fluid lines and a correct, cast iron intake. That intake rides between correct heads, which hang a polished AC breather over attractive, polished valve covers. An old school distributor utilizes retrofitted electronic ignition to spark pliable Packard Radio TVRS cables. Cooling is provided by a correctly shrouded radiator, which sends water around a traditional fan via GM-branded hoses and reproduction tower clamps. Charred dinosaurs float through old school exhaust manifolds. And, aesthetically, the car's impressive engine bay has been very well-maintained, from its smooth fenders and Delco Moraine brake booster all the way to its Frigidaire AC compressor and Delco-Remy voltage regulator.
THE WAY OF THE FACTORY
The stout powerplant spins torque through a tough Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed, which twists a proven 10-bolt axle that's finished with friendly, 3.23 gears. Those gears push a factory suspension that's been fully rebuilt all the way down to correct spiral-type shock absorbers. Factory power steering plays well with power front disc and rear drum brakes. Reproduction exhaust feeds correct mufflers and correct resonators. As with the engine bay, correct markings and labels are present in all the right places. And muscle meets the pavement through fully dressed Rally Is, which spin 205/75R14 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial redlines around stainless trim rings and factory center caps.
SOLID GOLD
Open this Poncho's doors and you'd expect to find a simple Black interior that serves as a nice contrast to the car's rich paint. But this classic is built to exceed expectations, and its gold cockpit looks positively awesome! Front and center, requisite bench and bucket seats balance tight vinyl hides between fade-free side panels and color-keyed door frames. Those hides look great behind a wood-trimmed dash, which anchors rebuilt telemetry above factory air conditioning and factory audio. On the floors, a snazzy console frames locking storage behind a cool Hurst His n Her Shifter. And the driver tames the road through a satin-spoke steering wheel that's finished with a green Pontiac inlay.
