Documented HO GTO Hardtop 360hp 400ci V8 4 speed Power Steering & Brakes
In the golden age of American muscle, the Pontiac GTO was king. And today, when you're looking to grab a piece of Detroit's finest iron without closing out your retirement, a solid GTO is one of the smartest purchases on the market. Featuring a legendary 400 HO/4-speed drivetrain, this acutely restored hardtop is the kind of car that can be enjoyed WHILE it appreciates. And if you're the kind of gearhead who likes to put their hardware in the show and on the street, it's a prime candidate for your next classic!
A+ A-BODY
Originally sold through Butts Pontiac in Monterey, California, this awesome GTO has benefitted from meticulous, body-on restoration that's been conducted as needed. That care resulted in clean sheetmetal, which is solid and well aligned. And that sculpted canvas glows thanks to vivid Regimental Red 2-stage. At the front of the car, a flashy dual-port grille founds ornate parking lamps and a prominent “GTO” emblem between a mirrored bumper and stacked T3 headlights. At the top of the car, a broad hood floats a small scoop between a monochromatic arrowhead and smooth glass that's framed in polished stainless and capped by tight vinyl. At the sides of the car, sporty GTO emblems add a little class while traditional door handles and a polished mirror perfectly complement requisite wheel lips and ornate rocker moldings. And out back, a stainless-trimmed valance hangs louvered taillights between a fourth “GTO” emblem and a second mirrored bumper that's finished with clear reverse lamps.
PONTIAC POWER
Under the hood, 400 cubic inches of correct Pontiac power hides a familiar 9786133 casting number between a High Output “WV” assembly stamp and a November (L) 11th (11), 1966 (6) casting date. At the top of that Turquoise mill, a reliable Quadrajet carburetor bridges the gap between a polished air cleaner, bright stainless fluid lines and a correct, cast iron intake. That intake rides between correct heads, which hang a polished AC breather over attractive, polished valve covers. A familiar points distributor sparks pliable Packard Radio TV R Suppression cables. Cooling is provided by a correctly shrouded radiator, which sends water around a traditional fan via GM-branded hoses and correct tower clamps. Charred dinosaurs float through old school exhaust manifolds. And, aesthetically, the car's tidy engine bay has been very well-maintained.
THE WAY OF THE FACTORY
That stout V8 spins torque through a date-correct Muncie 4-speed, which twists a tough 10-bolt axle. That axle pushes a clean factory suspension that appears to have been fastidiously maintained. Factory power steering plays well with power front disc and rear drum brakes. Aluminized exhaust feeds throaty turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. And muscle meets the pavement through fully dressed Rally IIs, which spin F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redlines around stainless trim rings and factory center caps.
FAMILIAR FLASH
Open this Poncho's doors and you'll find a correct Black interior that serves as a nice contrast to the car's vivid paint. Front and center, requisite bucket seats balance tight vinyl between fade-free side panels and color-keyed door frames. Those hides look great behind a wood-trimmed dash, which founds rebuilt telemetry next to factory audio. On the floors, a snazzy console frames locking storage behind a short Hurst shifter. And the driver tames the road through a satin-spoke steering wheel that's finished with a green Pontiac inlay.
1967 was a high-water mark in terms of styling, performance and exclusivity. With acute restoration and a correct drivetrain, nothing will interfere with this coupe being both a weapon on the street and a winner at the cruise-in. If you're a dedicated enthusiast who's looking for the perfect opportunity to pick up a head-turning GTO, nothing can stop you now!
