Ground Up Restored GTO Convertible 400 V8 Automatic Air Conditioning PHS Docs
In the golden age of American muscle, the Pontiac GTO was king. And today, when you're looking to grab a piece of Detroit's finest iron without closing out your retirement, a well restored GTO is one of the smartest purchases on the market. This fully-sorted Judge tribute mixes 400 cubic inches of smooth Pontiac power with a tough Turbo-Hydramatic 400 and attractive red-on-black aesthetics. And if you're the kind of gearhead who likes to parade their hardware at the show and on the street, it's a great candidate for your next classic!
THAT'S RED, NOT ORANGE
An authentic GTO convertible that's benefitted from a quality, ground-up restoration, this striking Judge tribute is a straight, road-ready classic that looks great from any angle. At the front of the car, a renowned Endura bumper hangs stainless-trimmed, “G T O” branded grilles above a stainless-trimmed valence and clear parking lamps. At the peak of those grilles, a familiar Ram Air hood props dual scoops beside an optional exterior tachometer. At the sides of that hood, expressive 'coke bottle' fenders are highlighted by crisp “G T O” emblems, vivid Judge decals and bright rocker trim. At the top of those fenders, a factory mirror reflects stainless-trimmed glass and correct Black vinyl. And at the back of the car, a thick chrome bumper centers simple taillights below a small “G T O” badge and a large spoiler that's branded with a bold Judge decal.
POWER BY 400
Hoist the hood and you'll find 400 cubic inches of proven Pontiac power! At the top of that Turquoise mill, a reliable Quadrajet carburetor bridges the gap between a painted air cleaner, bright stainless fluid lines and a correct, cast iron intake. That intake rides between correct heads, which are capped by mirrored valve covers. A familiar points distributor sparks pliable 7mm Hi-Temp Radio Suppression cables. Cooling is provided by a correctly shrouded radiator, which sends water around a traditional fan via GM-branded hoses. Charred dinosaurs float through factory exhaust manifolds. There's an Optima gel cell battery that supplies plenty of charge. And, aesthetically, the car's tidy engine bay has been very well maintained.
ALL RIGHT, ALL GTO
That stout V8 spins torque through a tough Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed, which spins a requisite 10-bolt axle. That axle pushes a clean factory suspension that's been fully rebuilt. Factory power steering plays well with power front disc and rear drum brakes. Aluminized exhaust feeds throaty Flowmaster mufflers and polished stainless tips. And muscle meets the pavement through 15-inch Rally II wheels, which spin 235/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around attractive “PMD” center caps.
CORRECTLY CONTRASTED
Open this Poncho's doors and you'll find a correct Black interior that strikes a great balance between style and sport. Front and center, short bucket seats stretch tight vinyl between clean carpet and fade-free side panels. Those thrones look great behind a wood-trimmed dash, which founds rebuilt telemetry next to factory air conditioning and factory audio. On the floor, a factory console frames a short, “PMD” branded shifter. And the driver tames the road through an ornate steering wheel that laps a tilting column.
1969 was a high-water mark in terms of styling, performance and exclusivity. Thanks to a detailed restoration and a desirable drivetrain, nothing will interfere with this goat being both a weapon on the street and a winner at the show. If you're a dedicated enthusiast who's looking for the perfect opportunity to pick up an authentic GTO drop-top, nothing can stop you now!
