Documented Authentic W-30 442 Original 455 Correct TH400 Posi PS PB A/C Options
It's a real shame that so many enthusiasts overlook Oldsmobile when shopping for an awesome classic. Big block Chevelles and aggressively styled GTOs seem to be naturals when it comes to muscle car wish lists. But, in reality, GM's 'more proper' divisions created some of the nastiest stoplight warriors ever unleashed on American streets. Oldsmobile, the General's humble technology division, certainly did its fair share to glorify the rise of Detroit. And this documented drop-top is a prime example of their much lauded 'bar brawler in a tuxedo' sales mentality. Wrapping an original Rocket big block in detailed restoration, this highly-optioned 442 is one of the coolest A-Bodies on the planet! And if you're looking for a solid, show-ready classic that'll turn heads and bring home trophies, it's your round-trip rocket ride to the moon!
SHADES OF HURST
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration, this authentic W-30 442 presently rolls as an impeccable classic that reflects premium Porcelain White paint under rich gold stripes and a tight tan top. The car's clean lines kick off with a 442-specific grille, which centers monochromatic “442” lettering between stainless-trimmed headlights and a broad bumper that's fashioned around clear parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a W-30 Fresh Air Hood anchors polished lanyards in front of a stainless-trimmed greenhouse that's reflected in color-keyed Sport Mirrors. At the sides of that hood, a “442” branded profile floats cool, W-30-spec stripes between clean marker lamps, dent-free wheel rings and traditional GM door handles. And at the back of the car, a “442” branded decklid strings a gold pinstripe between a large wing, trumpeted exhaust tips and a second broad bumper that's fashioned around silver-trimmed taillights.
NUMBERS-MATCHING POWER
Under the Ram Air Hood you'll find 455 cubic inches of original Rocket V8 that hangs a correct 396021F casting number over a matching 415111 partial VIN. Stomp the throttle and a familiar W-30 air cleaner shoves wind through a lightweight Winters intake by way of a familiar Quadrajet 4-barrel. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor feeds fire through pliable Standard Triple Silicone cables, which snake around correct “F” heads and stamped and painted valve covers. Below those covers, restored exhaust manifolds shoot charred dinosaurs in to big, true-dual pipes. Cooling is provided by a beefy, 4-row radiator. And, aesthetically, familiar plastic fenders and Metallic Blue block skin look fantastic against the car's crisp body.
A DRIVETRAIN WORTHY OF A ROCKET
This convertible's hot big block fronts a correct Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed, which wears a date-correct “OW 70” assembly tag. That stainless-trimmed transmission sends power to a proven 12-bolt axle, which spins a posi-traction differential around big, 3.91 gears. That smooth driveline rides a familiar heavy duty suspension, which, along with the car's chassis, appears to have been fully rebuilt during the car's body-off reboot. Solid stops are provided by power front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns come courtesy of factory power steering. At the center of the floors, an aluminized exhaust system funnels spent gases through buff turbo mufflers. And everything rolls on bright Oldsmobile Super Stocks, which spin F60-15 Firestone Wide Oval 60s around rocket-branded center caps.
OPTIONS GALORE
Inside this impressive classic you'll find a correct Saddle interior that, in the realm of performance-focused muscle cars, is both classy and upscale. At the center of the cockpit, stainless-trimmed seats frame a slim console, which frames a small, wood-trimmed shifter. In front of that island, a wood-trimmed dash hangs sweet Rallye Pack gauges, complete with a cool Tic-Toc-Tachometer, above factory air conditioning, retro AM/FM audio and a factory 8-track player. At the sides of that ledge, ornate door panels front smooth power windows and convenient power door locks. In front of the driver, a stylish Sport Steering Wheel laps a tilting column. And the car's heavy list of options even includes niceties like a power top, a rare speed minder, a power trunk and Oldsmobile's rare Night Watch headlight delay.
Tired of the same old Chevelles and GTOs you can find anywhere, anytime? Then take a close look at this GM-documented 442! Fully restored and ready to roll, it's a super cool classic that's poised to turn heads and win fans. Whether you're an emphatic Oldsmobile collector, or a serious muscle car aficionado who just wants something a little different, this cool A-Body is the perfect investment!
