MacNeish-Authenticated Camaro Z/28 Original 302 Muncie 4-Speed Original 12-Bolt
In 1967 Chevrolet introduced a stylish new coupe that, along with the Corvette, would come to define the brand's successful foray into motorsports and performance. And, as we've all come to know, the Camaro, backing timeless 2-door style with an array V8 powerplants, was a legend in the making! At RK Motors Charlotte we take pride in specializing in exclusive, world class classics. And that's why we're proud to feature this fully documented, MacNeish-certified Camaro Z/28. Wrapping a numbers-matching engine in correct Olympic Gold and Black aesthetics, this retro wonder is a glorious trip back to the days of Win On Sunday, Sell On Monday!
SOLID GOLD
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration, this clean Chevy is a choice collectible that currently presents much better than any factory original. During the car's precise reboot, solid sheetmetal was massaged into great alignment, layered in correct Olympic Gold 2-stage and streaked with ominous Rally Stripes. And today, one close look at our high-resolution photos reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one slick Chevrolet muscle car! At the front of this Panther, a silver grille hangs a tough “Z/28” badge between clear headlights, a smirking bumper, clear parking lamps and a requisite D80 chin spoiler. Above that grille, a Chevrolet-branded header leads a familiar, “302” branded Cowl Induction Hood. At the sides of that hood, a sculpted profile cants optional quarter louvers between polished door handles, stainless wheel lips and factory Camaro badging. At the tops of those doors, polished mirrors reflect a factory-tint greenhouse that's sealed in straight stainless trim. And at the back of the car, a Camaro-branded trunk tilts a second D80 spoiler over textured taillights, a fourth “Z/28” emblem and a guarded bumper.
FIFTY YEARS STRONG!
Even if you forget everything else we tell you about this Camaro, be sure to pay VERY close attention to what's under the car's hood. Motivating this real-deal Z/28 is an original, MacNeish-certified 302 that, despite an official rating of just 290 horsepower, punched out something close to 375 horses straight from the factory! Savvy collectors will quickly locate the numbers-matching 302's correct 3970010 casting number, correct “DZ” suffix stamp and matching 678242 partial VIN. Casual observers will be quick to notice the mill's Z/28-exclusive Corvette valve covers. And everyone will start to vibe when air and fuel flow from a modern Holley carburetor in to a hot Winters intake that's framed by requisite double hump cylinder heads! Those heads work well with solid lifters and a big COMP cam. Hot Pertronix ignition sequences sparks through quality MSD Street Fire Wires. Spent gases fall through coated, long-tube headers. When it comes to keeping up appearances, the entire engine compartment, from its restored inspection marks and bright decals to its Chevy Orange block and Satin Black fenders, is clean, attractive and ready to roll! Since the mill has been professionally overhauled by Miller Place, New York's Engines By Elsasser, it's likely good for another fifty years of spirited motoring. And, if you like a more traditional feel, this Chevy's sale includes a vintage Holley carburetor and old school exhaust manifolds.
AS IT WERE
That small block spins a correct Muncie M21 4-speed, which, like the engine, was fully rebuilt by Miller Place, New York's Engines By Elsasser. That transmission twists an original, MacNeish-verified 12-bolt, which displays a familiar 3894860NF casting number beside a May (E) 21st (21), 1968 (8) casting date, a 12-bolt/posi-trac/3.73 (BU) assembly code and a June (06) 4th (04) Detroit Gear & Axle second shift (G2) assembly sequence. That rear end pushes a factory-spec suspension that's been upfitted with bright Bilstein shocks. Exhaust travels through aluminized pipes to an H-shaped crossover and throaty Flowmaster mufflers. Turns come courtesy of factory-style power steering. Power-assisted discs and drums provide quick and reliable stops. And everything rolls on dressed Rally Wheels, which spin E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs.
SETTING THE STANDARD
The Standard Black Interior hiding behind this Camaro's Olympic Gold doors is a correct factory affair that, 50 years after its debut, is still both stylish and cool. Tall bucket seats frame a wood-trimmed console that's finished with 4-pack accessory gauges and a polished Hurst shifter. In front of that island, a wood-trimmed dash hangs stainless-trimmed foot pedals below rebuilt factory telemetry and a Delco AM radio. That seat, dash and console trifecta is completely framed by a tight headliner, fade-free side panels and clean carpet that's protected by “Z/28” branded mats. And the driver spins a reproduction Rally Wheel.
So, there you have it: a rare, fully-documented piece of Chevrolet history that features an original, highly exclusive small block. Call, click or visit https://www.RKMotors.com for more information on this MacNeish-certified Z/28!
