Numbers Matching Camaro Z28 Rally Sport 350 V8 4-speed PS PB Protect-O-Plate
As cool as first-generation Camaros are, it seems that EVERYONE either owns one or knows someone who owns one. And as much as we enjoy watching killer F1s parade through our doors, it's always nice to see a well-done second-generation car. Being an avid Camaro fan, you probably know finding a cool F2 isn't all that hard. But the chances of scoring a nice, early-build Z28 seem almost as likely as purchasing a winning lotto ticket. Luckily, since the passionate gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte specialize in the best and most exclusive, we can offer you excellent opportunities like this quintessential 'hugger'. Wrapping an original LT-1 in sinister Black and Shadow Gray aesthetics, this super clean muscle car is cool, correct and highly authentic!
CASTING SHADOWS
Believed to have traveled only 47,651 miles in 50 years, this storied panther has benefitted from acute restoration that focused on general wear and tear as opposed to all-out repair. Naturally, correct Shadow Gray two-stage lurks beneath attractive Rally Stripes. And today, this Chevy rolls as an exclusive homage to five decades of both passionate enthusiasts and winning pony car history!
Wider, rarer and more athletic than its predecessor, this cool coupe personifies the “working man's Ferrari” mentality that GM famously threaded into F2's development. At the front of the car, a two-piece Rally Sport valence centers a 4-piece, “Z28” branded grille between ornate parking lights, halogen headlamps, a requisite chin spoiler and mirrored bumperettes. Behind that valance, a classy header emblem leads the eye to a smooth, stainless-trimmed hood, which fronts pristine, stainless-trimmed glass that's cleared by hidden, Rally Sport windshield wipers. The car's clean fuselage centers polished door handles and body-matched mirrors between clean marker lamps, simple “Z28” emblems and straight rocker guards. And those mirrors reflect a tasteful bikini spoiler, which centers a correct “Z28” emblem above a bright bumper, polished exhaust pipes and Rally Sport-exclusive taillights.
ORIGINAL LT-1
A lot of car buffs rave about the first generation Z/28 and Chevrolet's legendary DZ 302. But in reality, the LT-1 350 found under this Camaro's hood is a much better engine, especially when it's been freshly rebuilt. That's right, this numbers-matching small block, which hangs a correct 3970010 casting number behind a correct “CTB” suffix and matching partial VIN, benefitted from a thorough rebuild that was just completed by our own RKM Performance Center. At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, a polished, painted and decaled air cleaner feeds a correct 4555 Holley 4-barrel, which rides a correct Winters intake. That intake feeds factory Chevrolet heads, which tilt finned valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the back of those heads, a traditional points distributor sequences spark through loomed AC-Delco-Packard TV-R-Suppression cables. At the front of those wires, factory power steering boosts a traditional Saginaw gearbox. And the car's freshly painted engine bay is splashed with quality ancillaries like fresh hoses, stainless fluid lines and a fresh Delco Moraine brake booster.
AS NEEDED
In 1970, the only transmission you wanted in your Z28 was a tough Muncie 4-speed, and that's exactly what lives behind this car's mean small block. Naturally, that VIN-stamped gearbox spins power to a tough 12-bolt axle. That driveline hangs in a correct, and freshly rebuilt, F41 Sport Suspension, which combines the aforementioned power steering with correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. That suspension is dissected by aluminized exhaust, which barks through a correctly mounted Dynomax muffler. That exhaust is framed by freshly finished floors. And those floors roll on correct, 15-inch Rally Wheels, which spin F60-15 Firestone Wide Ovals around dent-free trim rings and blue-tinged center caps.
AS IT WAS
Open the car's long doors and you'll find a correct Black Custom Cloth interior that, based on appearance, features many original components. There's a quartet of cloth buckets that are familiar Z28 fare. In front of those seats, a silver-trimmed dash hangs a requisite Delco AM radio under Z28-specific telemetry that's framed in deluxe wood applique. A correct, wood-trimmed console centers a chrome Hurst shifter on fade-free carpet that's protected by Chevrolet-branded floor mats. Original door panels found more bright applique in straight, stainless trim. A tight headliner complements deluxe shoulder belts. And the driver stays connected to the road through an “RS” branded steering wheel.
One of Detroit's best combinations of performance and style, early second-generation Camaros present an excellent opportunity for savvy enthusiasts. And, because of their cool aesthetics, split-bumper cars are some of the most desirable F2s on the market. This fully sorted coupe, with its clean restoration and impressive drivetrain, is the kind of old school muscle that can make any enthusiast happy. Call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte and enjoy years of care-free cruising in this awesome 'hugger'!
