Expertly Restored Shelby GT500 Dual-Quad 428 V8 4-speed Toploader PS PB
Here at RK Motors we have a tradition of offering the best collector cars on the planet. And, while it's our job to facilitate transactions that make car enthusiasts' dreams come true, we also enjoy telling guests about the legendary metal that adorns our massive Charlotte showroom. That's why we simply couldn't wait to tell you about this awesome Nightmist Blue Shelby! Fully documented, wearing a documented nut-and-bolt restoration and featuring a killer 428/4-speed drivetrain, this Ford is an excellent example of one of the finest muscle cars ever produced. And if you're a discerning enthusiast who demands the very best in high caliber, investment grade classics, it's the story you've been patiently waiting to hear!
IT'S BLUE, NOT BLACK
The beneficiary of a documented nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, this choice, registry-listed Shelby is so well done that it's been invited to show at New Jersey's Monmouth County Concours d'Elegance. That show celebrated laser-straight lines and super-smooth surfaces that, after being carefully prepped, dressed correct Nightmist Blue base in a glossy coat of clear and precise GT500 side stripes. And today, this razor-sharp Shelby rolls as a first-class showpiece that can anchor any serious muscle car collection or hedge any major investment portfolio.
The GT500 threw fuel on the muscle car fire by not only adding power, but also introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustang styling cues ever created. At the front of this coupe, a Matte Black grille centers a legendary Shelby emblem and Ford-branded Wagner driving lights between a bright bumper, clear parking lamps and Ford-branded Wagner headlights. At the top of that grille, a pinned Shelby hood leads the eye to crisp glass that's sealed between polished stainless and bright drip rails. At the sides of that glass, a straight profile hangs requisite Shelby scoops between ornate Cobra emblems, factory door handles and predictable Shelby fender extensions. And at the back of that profile, a lightweight Shelby decklid shades a second bright bumper that splits Shelby taillights, polished exhaust tips and a detailed Shelby fuel filler.
DUAL-QUAD POLICE INTERCEPTOR
Now that you've waded through all the flowery prose about paint and trim, it's time to get down to business. Lift the car's lightweight hood and you'll find 428 cubic inches of correct Police Interceptor muscle that's been completely rebuilt from its twin 4-barrel carburetors all the way down to its Shelby deep-sump oil pan! Long regarded as one of the most iconic Ford mills ever created, Police Interceptor FEs utilized a strengthened block, heavy-duty connecting rods and a unique crank to twist an advertised 355 horsepower into 420 lb./ft. of factory-stated torque. At the top of the engine, a “COBRA” branded air cleaner drops breeze through correct Holley carburetors. Those carbs ride an aluminum, Police Interceptor-spec intake that's married to cast iron heads and cool Cobra LeMans valve covers. The fires get lit by a familiar points distributor, which sequences sparks between a tagged Autolite coil and loomed Autolite Radio Resistance plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a stock radiator, which circulates water through pliable FoMoCo hoses. And charging is provided by an Autolite-branded alternator that whirls opposite correct power steering. Aesthetically, the clean engine bay appears very close to original, featuring an even combination of Satin Black and Ford Blue paint. And everything, from the car's polished oil cap and Autolite-topped battery to its clean exhaust manifolds and tidy washer tank, appears fully sorted and ready to show.
WHAT CONCOURS LOOKS LIKE
Take a look under this Mustang and you'll find exceedingly clean floors that are every bit as solid as the car's straight exterior panels. A correct Toploader 4-speed spins a correct 9-inch axle. At the front of that drivetrain, a rebuilt suspension centers a beefy sway bar and correct power steering between correct power disc brakes. At the back of that drivetrain, sturdy leaf springs hang correct drum brakes at the edges of a clean stainless fuel tank. At the center of those bones, fresh exhaust pipes spent gases through an H-shaped crossover, small resonators and a transversely mounted muffler. Power meets the ground through E70-15 Goodyear Speedway 350s, which are wrapped around polished Shelby Magstars. And everything, from the car's fresh fuel tank to its Ford-branded starter, appears safe, lucid and ready to roll.
IT'S BLACK, NOT BLUE
Naturally, Ol' Shel focused most of his energy on the performance and appearance of America's most revered pony car. And when those attributes were combined with Ford's already excellent interior, it paid big dividends. The first thing you'll notice is an ornate, speed-drilled steering wheel. Behind that wheel, a great looking dash frames a correct 140 MPH speedometer and 8,000 RPM tachometer beside a correct AM radio and retro Stewart Warner accessory gauges. Opposite that dash, knitted vinyl seats are in spectacular shape, presenting hardly any evidence of use. Beneath those seats, fade-free carpet, protected by pony-themed mats, anchors a short shifter between silver-trimmed side panels. Opposite that rug, a Shelby-spec roll bar frames a correct Fold Down Rear Seat. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk hides a fifth Shelby Magstar inside a fifth Goodyear Speedway tire.
Few classics have the kind of attitude and presence of an old school Shelby. And if previous trends are any indication, these cars will continue to gain value as they become more exclusive and collectible. This investment grade GT500 is a fully documented, fully sorted show queen that drives and sounds every bit as good as it looks. If you're a dedicated purist who desires only the best, here's a chance to own the ultimate muscle car!
