Pro Built Camaro ZL1 Tribute 482ci All-Aluminum Big Block V8 Automatic A/C
From era-defining tri-fives to world-beating sports cars, Chevrolet has always delivered approachable, all-American performance. With that in mind, modification has long been a hallmark of the Chevrolet brand, and turning a working man's car into a boss icon is a trick that's almost as old as hot rodding itself. For decades, southern California has been awash in killer street rods that are literally rolling pieces of art. Here in the American south, brazen moonshiners built a racing empire on the backs of upfitted grocery getters. And in the Midwest, our favorite OEMs are still elevating corporate powerplants into elite powerhouses. So, when we tell you this striking Camaro features a roster of choice pro-touring technology, it shouldn't be a big shock. When we tell you its storied Chevrolet power is 482 cubic inches of aluminum Chevrolet Performance ZL1, it's sure to get your attention. And when you take a look at some high-resolution photos of what has to be one of the sharpest American muscle cars on the planet, we're sure you'll be ready to join the RK Motors family!
TIMELESS FORM
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that was completed by Scott Tiemann, owner of Portland, Michigan's Supercar Specialties, this slick Camaro might be the ultimate American muscle car. A series of solid body panels displays great fit and excellent finish under vibrant LeMans Blue two-stage. That striking pigment looks especially boss under White Hockey Stripes and tight White vinyl. And today, this classic rolls as one very well done pavement scorcher that'll drop jaws at whatever event it rocks!
Detailing begins with bright T3 headlights, which frame a stainless-trimmed, “SS” branded grille between a polished bumper, a Camaro-branded header and a braced D80 spoiler. A familiar Super Sport Hood leads the eye to a stainless-trimmed greenhouse that's planted between polished handles, polished mirrors and muted wipers. A sculpted profile weaves NOS quarters and NOS fenders behind stainless rocker guards, ornate fender badging and optional quarter louvers. And at the back of the car, a requisite D80 spoiler shades a Satin Black valance, which hangs '69-exclusive taillights over a guarded bumper.
BUILDING BETTER POWER
Tilt this F1's long hood and you'll find 482 cubic inches of a rowdy all-aluminum Chevrolet Big Block that twists 619 dyno-proven horsepower into 589 lb./ft. of dyno-proven torque! At the top of that brutal mill, a polished, 427-branded air cleaner jambs wind through an 850cfm Holley Ultra XP 4-barrel. That carb, sequenced to stainless lines and a billet Holley HP pump, feeds a familiar Edelbrock intake. That intake feeds hot Air Flow Research cylinder heads, which stack a polished breather and a snazzy Tonawanda decal on polished valve covers and coated Lemons large-diameter headers. Those headers frame an aluminum Chevrolet Performance ZL1 block, which spins a smooth COMP hydraulic roller cam beneath requisite hydraulic lifters. A hot MSD distributor sparks loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Long V-belts spin an Edelbrock water pump between a rebuilt alternator, lucid power steering and a polished AC compressor. Speaking of water, a big radiator circulates coolant around a big pulley fan. And overall, the lightweight beast looks great in a traditional, Satin Black engine bay.
BUILDING BETTER PERFORMANCE
Bottom-side, the potent small block spins a dressed and cooled Gearstar Performance Level 4 4L60E 4-speed automatic, which makes excellent use of a billet torque converter and an HGM Electronics COMPUSHIFT CSII controller. That acclaimed auto twists torque through a heavy duty Strange 12-bolt. That pumpkin rolls between relocated springs, relocated shocks, beefy traction bars and quality Detroit Speed mini tubs. A thick sway bar leads a power-assisted Strange steering box. Stops are provided by power-assisted, LeMans Blue calipers, which clamp vented discs at every corner. Custom, fully coated exhaust funnels spent gases through either electronically actuated cutouts or an H-pipe crossover that leads a transverse muffler. There's no shortage of fuel thanks to a custom Detroit Speed tank. And at the corners, stainless-trimmed Rally Wheels carry 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 275/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.
TIMELESS STYLE
Swing the doors and you'll find a Deluxe Blue interior that's clean, comfortable and ready to cruise! That handsome cockpit is centered on fresh bucket seats that tilt factory headrests over textured vinyl. At the front of those thrones, a tasteful factory dash hangs crisp, '69-exclusive telemetry next to controls for Vintage Air conditioning. Deluxe door panels front smooth power windows. A factory console centers a familiar Horseshoe Shifter and coveted four-pack accessory gauges on fade-free carpet. The driver turns an attractive, wood-look steering wheel around a tilting column. And an updated audio system features built in MP3 capability.
Owning a lights-out classic is cool. Owning a lights-out classic that's been tastefully customized is something few are lucky enough to experience. Owning a tastefully customized, lights-out classic that's propelled by one of the best powerplants ever created is the stuff most gearheads dream about.
