2011 Sox & Martin Street Edition HemiCuda 6 Speed 3.92
We've all done it—we've sold that one car years ago that would be worth a fortune today. Or we passed on the opportunity to buy a piece of history because it didn't seem like a good idea at the time.
Well, here's your second chance. Not only is this a Sox and Martin Collector Series Hemi 'Cuda by Mr. Norm, it is serial number 0001. The first, and nobody knows how many will be built. This is most certainly opportunity knocking—do NOT let it pass you by this time.
Inspired by the Sox and Martin Hemi Cuda that won the 1971 NHRA Pro Stock National Championship, the Collectors Series Sox and Martin Hemi Cuda's are serious performance vehicles based on the new Challenger. The Sox and Martin Street Edition features the same red, white and blue paint scheme and period correct Sox and Martin graphics as the fearsome original NHRA Pro Stock National Championship winning Hemi Cuda. Features include a modern interpretation of the 1971 Cuda grille and tail panel that are complemented by an aggressive hood scoop reminiscent of the one on the first Sox and Martin Pro Stock Hemi Cuda. Inside, the cockpit features custom leather seating with the Sox and Martin Supercars shield embroidered on the seat backs. In addition, each Sox and Martin Collectors Series Hemi Cuda is personally signed by Buddy Martin and has a special fender tag that identifies its equipment and Sox and Martin serial number.
Fresh out of the box, 0001 is a new car in every measurable way. With 52 miles on the clock, all probably from driving on and off trailers as this car was displayed at tracks and auto shows around the country, it has never seen any street use. The factory-applied white paint is searingly bright and vivid, and remains in unblemished condition, having only been rubbed by microfiber cloths saturated in the best waxes and polishing compounds, and maybe touched by a bikini-clad model or two. The red and blue graphics vividly recall the original Sox and Martin racers of yore, and the designers did an excellent job of getting the proportions just right on the updated body. Of course, the original Sox and Martin cars were Plymouth Hemi 'Cudas, so Mr. Norm's did a little adjusting here and there to get the new Challenger to look a little more Barracuda-like.
Other details are definitely going to make you think Hemi 'Cuda, including the Mr. Norm's Garage 'Cuda grille, 'Cuda Tailpanel, and especially that awesome Shaker hood scoop that has been painted a correct shade of Argent Silver and wears a Hemi badge, which is fitting. The headlights are cool clear lens units, and the high beams have yellow fog light lenses. Like all Challengers, this one got a cool retro-looking fuel filler door, and a stubby wing on the deck lid looks right at home with the Sox and Martin graphics. Glass is, of course, unmarked and new, and every square inch of the car is superbly detailed and presented in new condition.
This car wouldn't be anything special without a nice upgrade in the horsepower department, and Mr. Norm's Garage delivers. It's a 5.7-liter Hemi that has been augmented with a cold air induction system and a custom exhaust with twin center-mounted outlets. A way-cool engine cover was custom designed and features the Sox and Martin logo in matching red, white, and blue livery. The rest of the engine bay is just as Chrysler built it and completely original and intact. For the future, all the tags, stickers, decals, and markings have been retained, and we'd advise you to preserve them. The engine runs like a new Challenger, with a healthy bark from the exhaust and a throaty performance sound.
The Sox and Martin legacy is preserved using the Super Track-Pak option, which includes a 6-speed manual transmission and 3.92 gears out back. The suspension is augmented by modifications like a Mr. Norm's Garage Lowering Package and Super Track Pak Suspension Package, which includes custom springs, shocks and sway bars. Wheels are mammoth 20-inch custom billet pieces with Mr. Norm's Garage centercaps, wearing 245/45/20 Goodyear performance radials.
Inside, the custom touches continue. The Challenger's interior is already an awesome place to do business, but the Sox and Martin upgrades let you know that you're driving something special. The seats are a combination of leather and suede with aggressive side bolsters and custom embroidery on the backrest. Between the seats is about the coolest pistol-grip shifter I've ever seen, rendered in real carbon fiber. Matching Sox and Martin logo floor mats keep the black carpets clean, and topping it off is the all-important Sox and Martin Street Edition 0001 serial number plaque mounted on the passenger's side of the dashboard. This car is also loaded with factory equipment, including A/C, power windows, power locks, and a powerful entertainment system.
Documentation is, of course, considerable. There are all the items you get with a new Dodge Challenger, including the window sticker, owner's manuals (still wrapped in plastic), manifest, four broadcast sheets, shipping orders, and other paperwork. You also get a Sox and Martin license plate as well as the Mr. Norm's Garage window sticker.
Nobody can guarantee collectability in the future, but the rule of thumb is that if it is special today, it will be special tomorrow. With the combination of the Sox and Martin heritage, including being endorsed by Diane Sox and Buddy Martin of the legendary Sox and Martin drag racing team, and built by the famous Mr. Norm's Garage, all the ingredients are here. In addition, this is serial number 0001, and the first of anything always commands a premium over any that follow. Pedigrees don't get much more iron-clad than this one, so if you've kicked yourself in the past for a missed opportunity, don't miss this one. Call today!
